The latest version of Magento Northern Ireland has been released - Magento version 2.4.2 is the usual mix of security updates, performance and some improvements to the software itself for users, administrators and developers.
Security
Security updates in 2.4.2 includes recent fixes as well as security enhancements that help close remote code execution (RCE) and cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities. All core cookies will now be flagged as "SameSite" and Magento will now automatically flag malicious content in product and category description fields.
Speed
This release contains enhancements to core quality, which improve the quality of the Framework and these functional areas: Customer Account, Catalog, CMS, OMS, Import/Export, Promotions and Targeting, and Cart and Checkout. Updates also include compatibility with newer version of Elasticsearch 7.9.x, Varnish 6.4, Redis 6.x and Composer 2.x.
There have been additional enhancements to improve the speed and performance of API calls and the Admin Panel for deployments with larger catalogues.
System Improvements
Other new additions include Adobe Stock Integration. GraphQL coverage for comparison lists. PWA Studio integration including Internationalisation and localisation, improved extensibility framework and the initial works for account, wishlist, order history components.
The Media Gallery has been improved with the new ability to limit administrator access and control media uploads, inserts, edits, deletes and folder structure. Web-optimised images can now be generated without affecting the original image.
There have also been updates to vendor developed extensions and increased support for Amazon Web Services S3.
