Lost Highway Media are a design and development company in Arlington, Texas.

Lost Highway Media specialise in developing modern, responsive, standards-compliant websites with a focus on excellence. You can imagine my shock and surprise that a company, with such high standards, has to resort to spamming random email addresses to get business.

Lost Highway Media Spam

After waiting a few days I decided it would be best to follow-up with Lost Highway Media. I let them know spamming random email addresses probably didn't convey the professionalism they thought it might. Especially since they were advertising their ability to get websites to rank better in search engines.

SEO or "search engine optimisation" is the art of getting websites to rank better for specific keywords so people looking for them end up on a particular website.

Lost Highway Media Spam

Lost Highway Media appreciated my advice.

As with most spammers, I wanted to establish where Lost Highway Media got my email address, this didn't go down well with Brian at Lost Highway Media. Apparently my reply to his unsolicited email spam was bothering him.

Lost Highway Media Spam

I'll follow up after the holidays.

Spamming in Texas

The Texas Attorney General is the state's chief legal officer and is responsible for policing spam, scams and online safety as part of their Consumer Protection responsibilities.

Texas enacted legislation in June 2003 requiring that unsolicited commercial e-mail messages include a label ("ADV:" or "ADV: ADULT ADVERTISEMENT") at the beginning of the subject line, and a functioning return e-mail address for opt-out requests, which must be honored. The law prohibits unsolicited commercial messages with falsified routing information. False, deceptive, or misleading subject lines are prohibited in all commercial e-mail messages, as is the unauthorized use of a third party's domain name.

Update

I'll update here once I find out how Brian at Lost Highway Media of Arlington, Texas got my personal information.

I appreciate your timely response. The offending URL is https://keithgreer.dev/brian-burns-lost-highway-media-spam.

Mr. Greer is indicating on his public-facing website (hosted with Amazon AWS) that I sent him unsolicited spam emails, including one containing a vulgarity. That is not the case.

Earlier this year I discovered that some person or persons, probably overseas scammers, were sending out "phishing" emails representing themselves to be me and my company, Lost Highway Media. The senders of these emails apparently had a domain pointing to my IP address. I believe Mr. Greer received one of those emails; however, my domain is losthighwaymedia.com, and the originating email domain Greer is showing on his website, although redacted in red, is clearly not losthighwaymedia.com. I don't use email marketing, spam, nor any form of unsolicited communication - I never have and I never will.

The website Keith Greer has published with the false information about me and my company is coming up at the #3 organic position for Google search on my company name, Lost Highway Media, and obviously, that has the potential to be devastating to my business and my livelihood. I found an email for Mr. Greer through a Spokeo search, but cannot get a response from him regarding this issue (I have copied him on this exchange at that email address).

I'm not trying to cause hardship for Mr. Greer as I believe he did receive spam email(s) from someone pretending to be me or pretending to represent my company. However, since it is clear the email(s) did not originate from me or my business domain, I respectfully request that you either have Mr. Greer take the website down immediately or take the initiative on your end to deactivate the website's hosting account.

Your time and consideration in this matter are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, Brian Burns www.losthighwaymedia.com (214) 354-1861

Keith,

So sorry to bother you, but are you the owner of the domain/website keithgreer.dev?

I'm not having a tantrum, and to be fair, you're the one spamming people during their holidays.

I just want to establish how you got hold of my personal information, which I think is a reasonable request from someone who felt comfortable using it to send unsolicited email marketing.

I'm not American btw, this is a normal Thursday evening for me.

We can catch up after your holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving Keith

It's Thanksgiving. Don't you have family or friends to be spending it with rather than having a kindergarten temper tantrum over an email and fucking with the person who sent it? I've removed you from my mailing list so you won't receive any more. Now go have Thanksgiving.

Can I ask how you got hold of my personal information?

Did you buy a spam list of unsuspecting victims or gather it off another website?

Thanks Keith

Hey Brian

Why are you sending spam to promote your company?

It really doesn't reflect very well on your ability to increase my traffic if you have to resort to spamming random email accounts to get business.

Thanks Keith
